York Centre is expected by many observers to be among the first ridings in Toronto to elect a Conservative Member of Parliament. In 2006, the Liberals won the riding by 9681 votes. Two short years later, the Conservatives came within 2090 votes of knocking off the Liberal incumbent. We were able to clear 79% of the vote spread from the previous election. Although there isn't any magic to running a winning campaign, being the party that champions centrist, moderate positions plays a big part. However, moderation alone isn't enough. It costs money to run campaigns and to advocate on your behalf, in office or not. When you donate to the York Centre Conservative Association, all of your money stays local and has an immediate effect in helping to elect Conservatives locally. However, when you donate to the Conservative Party, only about 10% of your donation trickles down to help the Conservative candidate in your riding. There are generous tax benefits to donating to political parties. Use the donation calculator to the right to enter your donation and calculate your actual cost after tax credit.
